Encinitas Celebrates the Arts as the 2017 Encinitas Holiday Parade

For the 60th year, Encinitas will kick off the holiday season at the 2017 Encinitas Holiday Parade, presented by Lazy Acres Natural Market on Saturday, December 2.  Thousands of people will be on floats, on foot, in cars, and marching in bands while tens of thousands cheer them along the Parade route along Coast Highway 101.  The nighttime parade theme for 2017 is "Celebrating the Arts!"  Parade entries are gearing up to go all out, using decorations, performance, lights, music and art to show off what “Celebrating the Arts” means to them.  2017 could be the most creative and impressive parade yet, as many of our nearly 100 parade entries aim to win a prize in one of the Parade’s judged categories for lights, creativity, performance, music, spirit and overall impression.

Parade spectators will be able claim a good spot to watch the parade as soon as Coast Highway closes at 4 pm.  Followed by a countdown and ceremonial tree lighting, Santa himself will make a brief appearance to kick things off at 5 pm at the Lumberyard shops courtyard (near Starbucks).   At 5:30 pm, Parade Grand Marshall Danny Salzhandler will lead the nearly 100 parade entries down historic Highway 101.  The Encinitas Holiday Parade Committee is proud to name Mr. Salzhandler as Grand Marshal in recognition to his dedication to the arts community and for all the good he does in Encinitas.

The parade kicks off the holiday season in Encinitas, bringing families, friends and neighbors together in celebration. This year, Lazy Acres Natural Market is excited to come on board as the parade’s Presenting Sponsor.  "We've been in Encinitas for more than a year now, and we really feel like part of the community," said Justin Gano, Store Director for Lazy Acres Encinitas. "Sponsoring an iconic event like the Holiday Parade is a great way for Lazy Acres to say thank you to Encinitas for the amazing support we have received." The City of Encinitas thanks Lazy Acres along with all of its parade sponsors, including AMR Ambulance, EDCO Waste and Recycling and LePort Montessori School for their support this community event.

Free parking is available and shuttle busses will run from 4- 8:30 pm from Scripps Hospital Encinitas on Santa Fe Dr. (ADA accessible bus) and from the Magdalena Ecke YMCA parking lot at 200 Saxony Rd.   Avoid congestion, come early and stay late, enjoy Coast Highway 101 shops and restaurants.  Find information at www.EncinitasParksandRec.com or www.Facebook.com/cityofencinitas.  For additional information call the City of Encinitas Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department at (760) 633-2740.
